Your student voice informs all of our processes, so we take every effort to give you opportunities to provide feedback. This can be in a number of ways: from module feedback questionnaires, surveys and informal conversations with your tutors.
What is the Staff Student Liaison Committee?
Staff Student Liaison Committees (SSLCs) are where student reps from your course meet with the academic team and programme leaders, to give feedback that they gathered from students on the course the represent. They are held once a semester and usually take place in November and March.
There purpose is to provide an opportunity for you (through your reps) to give feedback and ideas to staff about your course, the student experience, and inform developments that will improve the future of the course.
In November we hosted the first SSLC of the academic year. You can find out what was discussed, and what immediate actions we took, here. Below is a brief overview of the changes we have implemented since then.
| Point raised | Response |
| Studio availability | We have looked through the timetable in the upcoming weeks to ensure that spaces aren’t booked unnecessarily moving forwards. This has freed up a significant amount of studio time and is something we will consider when timetabling next year. |
| Technical issues in studios | It’s really important that you report any issues or faults you encounter in the studios via Technical Support: https://technicalsupport.spiritstudios.ac.uk/ We have now signposted the site more clearly in all of our studios and teaching facilities to make this process easier for students. Just scan the QR code to report a fault. |
| Access to advanced studios | We will look to introduce signal path tests at an earlier point in the academic year to ensue you can make full use of the studios throughout your time here. |
| Contactless vending machines | We have now introduced contactless payment on our vending machines in the Green Room. |
| Request for additional plug-ins | These requests have been logged and will be assessed over the summer break. Unfortunately we can’t make these changes mid-way through term time due to the disruption it would have on teaching. We will provide an update as soon as possible. |
| Access to the Project Studio | We have now cleared the studio and so it is available for students (who have passed the appropriate assessment) to book. Note: this is not a facility for recording or mixing, but learning how a studio is wired together. It was built primarily for a module on the Entrepreneurial Audio Production degree (PE1223). |
| RNCM spreadsheet | The RNCM spreadsheet can also be used to improve collaboration amongst Spirit Studios students. There are three contact tabs, allowing you to reach out to students across both institutions. |
| Outdated macs | We have now updated mac workstations in the following facilities: Edit Suite 1 Edit Suite 2 Audient Suite 1 ICON Studio Audient 1 Audient 3 Spirit Studio S6 Suite C24 |
Upcoming SSLC meeting
We will shortly be announcing the date for the second SSLC meeting of the academic year. Be sure to speak to your reps and provide any further feedback you may have sooner rather than later so that they can add it to the meeting agenda.
To find out who the student rep on your course is go to your course classroom hub, and your student representatives are listed in the classwork area.
