Arts
Beginning on Friday 2nd February and running until the end of April, the Manchester Open will be taking place at HOME. Comprised of an exhibition of 480 pieces of artwork – paintings, photography, sculptures and more – this is a must see and free to attend, with donations encouraged. Fancy a social event? Factory International is hosting the next instalment of their regular Artist Socials on Wednesday 21st February. This is an ample opportunity to meet other Manchester-based creatives, network, and collaborate – all for free admission, with a complimentary drink! The Science and Industry Museum are putting on an ‘Art Battle’ evening, where 10 artists will go head to head to create a piece of art in a 30 minute window, on Friday 9th February. This is the first time the event is being run, and judging by its popularity it will hopefully be the first of many. Culture
The Chinese New Year celebrations will take place over the weekend of the 10-11th February, taking place in Chinatown and spreading over the city, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! A funfair will be available on Charlotte Street, stalls across the city centre, illuminated performances, and rounding it all off with the dragon parade from Oxford Street through to Chinatown.
