As we're well into the first Semester, here's a reminder of some useful resources to help with your studies.

As well as the state-of-the-art studios and sign-out equipment, we’ve a number of resources to help with your studies, but online and physical.

Student hub

The student hub is the go to place for online information and support. There’s a section called Library and Learning Resources that includes guides on academic writing, referencing and lists of resources available to you through UCLan and our on-site library books.

Study zone

Speaking of our on-site library books, you’ll find them in the Study Zone. Our study zone is located near the Mastering Studio and is available to use whenever the building is open. There are computers and MIDI keyboards to available to use, and you’ll find all the same software on the computers in the Study Zone as you would on the ones in the studios. There’s also free space to use your own laptop and equipment if you’re just looking for somewhere quieter to work. As mentioned above, Spirit Studios library books are located in the Study Zone, which you can use or rent out as you wish. The books available to borrow can be found here. If you want to borrow a book, you just need to speak to reception.

Tech resources

If you’re ever struggling in one of the studios or want a refresh on how things work, head to the Technical Resources Hub on Google Classroom. There are a series of guides you can access that can help you with IT services, Studio Resources and other technical support. Make a note of the Studio Resources folder as they detail all how to use all of the studios and the equipment in them. You’ll also find a physical copy of the Studio Guides in each studio.

Google Scholar

Another great free resource you can use to support your studies is Google Scholar. It’s a search tool that combines the ease of use of Google search while returning only scholarly sources such as academic e-books and e-journal articles. You can also create alerts so new articles or research published related to specific search terms, such as ‘music production’ can be sent directly to your inbox.
