Finding work while studying.

22 October, 2024

There are hundreds of opportunities to find part-time work in Manchester whilst studying in the city.

There are lots of benefits to having a job while you study. Not only does a part-time job give you extra income, but it will also help you build up your CV and develop valuable, transferrable skills you can take forward with you in your career.

Here are some of the part-time jobs and work you can look for around the city.

Arenas and stadiums

With the addition of a second arena in Co-op Live in May 2024, casual work at both arena’s is a good place to start:

Co-op Live

AO Arena – (ASM Global)

Alongside the arenas, there are also 2 football stadiums in Manchester City and Manchester United. These will often recruit for their Matchday staff. They often do recruitment pushes before the start of new seasons.

Manchester City – Etihad Stadium

Manchester United – Old Trafford

Bar, event & part-time work

There are a whole host of venues around Manchester who will regularly recruit throughout the year for bar staff, cloakroom, box office and stewarding etc. Here are a few to check first:

Manchester Apollo

Albert Hall

Freight Island / Depot Mayfield

Many venues and events will use event crewing companies like DnG to provide stage hands, production and site management.

Casual technicians

Some of the bigger venues will also be looking for casual technicians, if you feel like you already have enough experience for this check some of these out.

Old-school CV

It’s a good idea to keep your CV up-to-date anyway but many places around Manchester will still take in physical CV’s if they have any vacancies, especially bars, restaurants and retailers. Check through your CV and print it a handful of times and then spend a day off dropping them in at some places you like the look of. Now is the perfect time as retailers look for extra seasonal staff to work in the lead up to Christmas.
